Preparing For Your Engagement Session

A big part of getting the most out of your engagement photos is being prepared. Not only does it make my job easier, but it also helps you enter the mindset of doing these photos in a more relaxed state of mind. Below is a list of things you can do to better prepare yourself for your session.

1. Have location(s) for the session in mind, if you are not too sure where you want them done, ask me when you book the session if I have any recommendations. I have a long list of locations that I have worked at before and have received great results. Some couples like to have their photos taken where they met, where they went on their first date or where the proposal happened. Also think outside the box, nothing excites a photographer more than the opportunity to shoot somewhere he/she hasn't before.

2. Wear something nice. Don't over-do it though. A nice shirt, jeans, and some nice shoes will go a long way. However, at the same time, don't be afraid to wear something that may express your interests and hobbies. (ex. I photographed a couple in Ohio and the Groom to be is a firefighter so he brought his boots with him.)

3. Look up other engagement photos people have taken on the internet. It's a great way to get ideas for your own session.

4. Create a list of "Must Have" photos. Sometimes in the flurry of everything going on, its easy to forget a few shots that you may have wanted. Having a list is a great way to cover all of that.

5. This is an important one. RELAX. When you are planning a wedding, you have a million different things to worry about and your engagement photos should not be one of those things. When you arrive to the shoot, just zone out any other stress you may have going on. Just have fun with it. If you are relaxed and having fun, the photos will reflect it.

Hope this list was helpful!
